Our University has recently re-branded to call itself the UCA, after obtaining full status, combine this with the influx of new students that will join our ranks in September and we have the potential for exciting change and some exciting work.
Myself and Wilf have decided that we would like to attempt a project to inspire our fellow students to share their thoughts and build a buzz around the campus. We would therefore like you to tell us your answer on the following question:
"What does it feel like when inspiration strikes?"
Maybe it was when you solved your first brief, when you got the last word on the crossword. The moment you invented a groundbreaking theory that will be shown on TED for years to come or when you decided on a name for your child, no matter what it was, we are sure at one moment in your life, you had a special inspired moment, so please share that feeling with us.
We hope that we will then use your answers to start the project rolling, putting them up on a wall on campus and encouraging students to add to the collection. We hope to add a bit of insight and analysis into fags breaks throughout the campus.

I think it feels like a cool breeze has just blown through the room on a humid day. It feels like that bit when you're driving out of London on the M40 between junctions 5 and 6. It feels like you just stumbled across the most simple answer ever, and you have to sit down and work out why you didn't think of it sooner. It never happens at a desk. It happens in some other place. And then it's gone.
Dan, thank you for being nice enough to start us off with our project. Lets hope we get enough comments to make it effective.

It's like that love-at-first-sight feeling.
The moment when inspiration strikes I mentally jump up and a big AHA! rings through my head. The idea I just realized was always there but now I made the connection and this opens so many new doors and opportunities in your head.
Its the same feeling you get when you catch the eye of someone attractive on the far side of a big room.
A moment of clarity when you see though the crowd and become aware of your destination, your relation to it, and the path between the two.
For me at least.
Its a punch the air feeling, when everything falls into place & makes sense. It's finding the answer even though you weren't looking. Its feeling like you can do anything you want.
It's like refreshment. Like a very cold glass of water when you're all hot and fuggy. Like waking up after a good sleep. Like when a fridge you hadn't even noticed suddenly stops buzzing and you relax. Like a film that's been almost in focus for so long you thought it was in focus suddenly twitches into full focus. Like the sting of winter air on the face.
And the sudden panic: I have to get this down before it vanishes - before all the thoughts that are now piling up behind it in my head start evaporating. If you don't have any way to record it right there and then, you're stuffed.
Pure intelligence flowing into you giving you sudden strokes of ideas. Everything clicks in to place. It usually comes in all the wrong places at all the wrong times. Which is why it's so hard working rigid hours at a desk in an office
being on a dreamy water toboggan. excited reassuring easiness. splash.
For me its a very hard to describe feeling, but I will try thusly: Inspiration is like an anagram; there is a word you need to make (i.e. desired result) out of all the letters available (all the considerations in your brief/challenge) so you shuffle the letters around until you make a word that makes sense. You can then tell that word to anyone else who knows your brief/challenge and they will know what you mean. As Einstein said:
"If you can't say it simply you don't understand it well enough yet"
Imagine you head is a box filled with a million different jigsaw pieces. Each piece moves about looking for a connection. The box is then jolted and suddenly a complete and wonderful picture is formed. Your heart wants to leap from your mouth and dance about the table.
It feels like the world is going to end which got me quickly rummaging around for anything I could jot down the ideas on before the world collapses on me.

An unbelievable rush of sweet relief after a sustained period of tension and anxiety.
Similar to when lightening strikes but less perilous and more heart-warming. Both carry a big impact. Ride the central line, watch people and listen to their conversation. The general public are the cheapest source of inspiration.
Hi guys, found you through dangermain....I think when inspiration strikes, (similarl to others) for me it feels like falling in love, the best orgasm ever, stealing sweets from the shop as a kid, getting served in a cool pub for the first time as a teenager, butterflys in the tummy, a huge weight of responsibility, fear its been done before, fear of being copied,(so a huge dose of insecurity) and an almost autistic focus which shuts everything else out until I feel I have sufficiently recorded the idea or feeling. (I recently sent someone a random msn message just saying 'crayon'so I could go back and check it later to write it down and make drawings..which were nothing like crayons btw). Hope this helps.
